Women’s fashion retailer The Limited has introduced a line of pet sweaters that are retailing for $24.50 and are made from acrylic/wool blend yarns. Sizing information indicates they will fit dogs from six to 28 pounds. In addition to pet sweaters, The Limited is selling pet-themed cards and a book about dog parties on the company website.
In conjunction with the launch of the sweaters, The Limited recently teamed up with social media company Brickfish to launch an online pet photo/story contest for consumers to promote the new items
The “Fabulous Pet Names” contest (www.thelimited.com/fabulouspetnames) invites consumers to submit photos of their pets along with the stories behind their names for a chance to win a number of prizes. Consumers can also share the entries on their social networking sites, like Facebook.
“By partnering with Brickfish for the Fabulous Pet Names program, we have the opportunity to interact and engage with our consumers on a whole new level,” said Brian Seewald, The Limited’s director of e-commerce. “We are excited to have our consumers share with us their pet naming stories. It is another great way for us to engage with them while celebrating our love for animals.”
The contest ends Dec. 28. Until then, consumers can post their own pet naming stories as well as share and vote for the entries.
The Limited will choose a grand prize winner out of the highest ranking entries. The grand prize winner will receive an on-location professional photo shoot with their pet, an iPod Nano and a $500 gift card to The Limited. The Limited will also choose a winner from the most shared entries, also known as the “most viral” entries. The winner of that category will receive a $250 Limited gift card.
As part of the program, The Limited is donating $5,000 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“People love their pets and by tapping into those consumers online, The Limited will be able to produce a highly engaged interaction between them,” said Nichole Goodyear, CEO and co-founder of Brickfish. “We are confident the Fabulous Pet Names program will result in a continued increase in brand awareness for The Limited.”
