On Feb. 6, Skybark, a Los Angeles-based pet-friendly party organizer hosted a fashion show and Awards party to kick off the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The party, which benefited New York City’s Animal Haven, a no-kill animal shelter, drew more than 300 dog lovers and their canine companions to the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York.
During a red carpet reception, dogs and their owners posed for the photos along with psychosexual therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer and Jorge Bendersky of Animal Planet’s reality T.V. show “Groomer Has It."
The canine fashion show featured designs from Ada Nieves, of Ada Nieves for Dogs in New York City. Dog models strutted their stuff in Moulin Rouge- inspired creations. CBS’s Greatest American Dog contestants Elvis, a Parson Russell terrier, and Andrew, a Maltese, were some of the models who walked the runway.
During the awards presentation, fashion show participants were honored by the American Mutt-i-grees Club, Pet Saver’s Foundation, Ada Nieves for Dogs and PetaPotty. Included among the recipients were Janice Wolfe, founder of Merlin Kids, a non-profit provider of service animals, who received the Humanitarian Award and Jilli, the poker-playing dog, who took the title of NYC Most Talented Dog.
The event also included a silent auction, a D.J., cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Companies that assisted in putting on the event included PetaPotty, Bitch New York, Fido Friendly, Metropolitan Blue Book, BringFido.com, Petmanufacturers.com, Doggy Aficionado and Les Poochs.
